Atlético Madrid have ended speculation over Julián Álvarez’s future with one of the strongest statements of the summer transfer window.
CEO Miguel Ángel Gil made the club’s position crystal clear: the Argentine striker is staying at the club.
“My position is clear, the club’s position is clear. We’ve made it known to the player, his representatives, and the president of Barcelona. I have absolutely no doubt that Atlético is the right place in the world for Julián… We want to keep him.”
Gil went further, responding directly to Barcelona president Joan Laporta:
“I recently heard the president say that the offer he made to Atlético Madrid wasn’t unlimited. My only response is that our answer is unlimited. We do NOT want to transfer him. We didn’t accept an offer of €100 million, and we won’t accept one of €150 million or even €200 million.”

The comments come after Álvarez publicly stated he wanted a transfer to “fulfil his dream” following Argentina’s World Cup match. Barcelona had reportedly made a €100m offer, while Real Madrid’s €150m bid was also rejected.
Atlético have now drawn a hard line — the 26-year-old, who is under contract until 2030, will not be sold this summer regardless of the fee.
The saga looks set to continue rumbling, but for now, Atlético’s message is unmistakable: Julián Álvarez is staying at the Metropolitano.
