
Lamine Yamal has been added to Barcelona’s group of captains for the 2026-27 season.The decision combined a choice by Hansi Flick and a vote by the players. Flick named Raphinha first captain and Pedri second captain. The squad then voted for the other three places.The players chose Eric Garcia, Frenkie de Jong and Yamal, in that order. The vote took place on Friday.Yamal is 19. He becomes one of the youngest captains in Barcelona history. He wears the number 10 shirt and is a regular starter on the right wing.Raphinha and Pedri were already part of the captain group last season. Garcia has risen in the dressing room. De Jong drops from a higher place in last season’s order.Marc-André ter Stegen and Ronald Araújo left the club and created vacancies. Ter Stegen joined Ajax. Araújo moved to Liverpool on loan. Gavi was not included in the five.Flick had used Raphinha, Pedri and Garcia as temporary captains at the start of the campaign, including the Joan Gamper Trophy. He said a final vote would follow once the squad was complete.Yamal has won La Liga and the Copa del Rey with Barcelona. He has also won the World Cup and the European Championship with Spain.Flick is expected to discuss the captaincy before Barcelona face Valencia.
